Welcome

Philip was born in Belfast and divides his time between Hertfordshire England and his native Northern Ireland. He studied English Literature at the University of East Anglia before further study at the University of Ulster and Queens University Belfast.

He taught English and Theatre Studies for 25 years at Friends School Lisburn and Down High School Downpatrick. Philip then began a new career in writing, research and community development exploring his special interest in history, cultural identity and political change in Britain and Ireland. In the early months of 2023, Philip aims to begin a fresh career as a psychotherapist, having studied for his diploma at the Albany Centre in St Albans.

Philip writes in several genres to include military history, drama and poetry and has directed his own plays. His book of poems and autobiographical prose The Illustrated History of Flight, published in 2021, is available to order via a Paypal link on this website.

Philip possesses certificate qualifications in mediation and counselling and has worked as a Trustee for a number of organisations to include Lyric Theatre Belfast, Mediation Northern Ireland and Down Museum. He is currently on the management board of the Bright Umbrella Drama Company and the St Albans Diocese Dispute Advisory Service.

In 2018 Philip was invited to become a member of The Royal Irish Academy in recognition of his work.
